What’s the Difference Between Hair Transplants and Medical Tattoos?

In today’s world, there are countless so-called solutions to hair loss, but only one is minimally invasive and permanent. At REFINED Cosmetic Center, we offer hair micropigmentation services to help achieve the illusion of thicker, fuller hair.

We have a passion for hair loss, because our founder experienced it. Of the many hair loss solutions out there, hair transplants are perhaps the most well-known procedure. However, it is often not successful. Medical tattoos for hair loss are far more effective because they do not try to regrow hair. Instead, an experienced technician uses special techniques to fill in thin or bald areas of the scalp with small dots of pigment.

In this blog, our medical professionals will discuss the difference between medical hairline tattoos and hair transplants.

What Are Hair Transplants?

Hair transplants are exactly what they sound like. During this procedure, a certified surgeon will relocate hair from somewhere on your body to the bald spot(s) on your head. This is done by surgically removing sections of your skin that contain either four to 10 hair follicles or one to two hair follicles, which are called slit graphs and micrografts. If you have a bald spot in just one location, the surgeon may remove hair follicles from a thicker area of hair on your head.

Once the doctor has cut out strips of skin containing hair follicles, they sew that section with stitches. Then, they separate the portion of your scalp they removed into small sections to get them ready to transplant into a different part of your scalp. Once that is completed, they go to your bald spot and make several small holes and incisions throughout the area before putting those small sections of hair into your scalp. Several grafts can be done during a single session, which can result in hundreds of hairs being transplanted to promote healthy and natural hair growth in that area. Once the procedure is done, your head will be covered in gauze, so you can let the skin recover for a few days. About two weeks after the procedure, you can have your stitches taken out, and future steps are planned from there.

Thankfully, there is a much less invasive option for men and women with hair loss. At REFINED Cosmetic Center, we do not offer hair transplants. We offer scalp micropigmentation, because it is minimally invasive and only requires one session, compared to several. We will explain more below.

What Are Medical Hairline Tattoos?

Countless people have hair loss and struggle to find the solution that is best for them. No matter the cause, losing your hair can be traumatic, and finding a trustworthy and licensed professional to help you heal both physically and mentally is critical. You could have a painful surgery that may not last permanently and will likely have to be redone several times, or you could choose instead to get a hairline medical tattoo, a permanent solution that will only need occasional touch-ups.

Medical tattoos are not the same as traditional tattoos, but they do involve needles and ink. Medical hairline tattoos, also called scalp micropigmentation, are minimally invasive and completely safe when done by a professional. Still, we do a thorough evaluation during your free consultation to determine if you are eligible. For this procedure, a small hand tool is used to inject pigment into your scalp. Attached to the end of the tool is a small needle that enters the top layer of your skin.

Our clinic stands above other micropigmentation companies because we will custom-match the pigment to your hair. Depending on the size of the area you want to be tattooed on your head, this procedure can take anywhere from a couple of hours to eight. It is permanent, but like any ink, your hairline tattoo may fade over time. At most, it will only need to be touched up occasionally.

Unlike hair transplants, scalp micropigmentation doesn’t require years of invasive surgeries to treat the area. It can be done in just one day! Your scalp may be tender for a little while after micropigmentation services, but you’ll heal significantly faster than you would after going through a thorough surgical procedure. Scalp micropigmentation is affordable, non-invasive, and recommended for both men and women.
