At some point in their lives, many people develop prominent veins in their legs that are commonly referred to as spider veins. Spider veins occur when the valves inside the veins stop working properly. While these veins are usually harmless, many find their appearance embarrassing or unsightly, which can lead to damaged confidence and lower self-esteem. If you are one of the many people with spider veins, you may be interested in our minimally invasive treatments.
Medical Tattoo & Cosmetic Centers of America offers sclerotherapy to treat uncomplicated spider veins in the legs. The procedure is non-surgical, requiring only an injection. Schedule a free consultation today!
In your veins, there are valves that control the blood flow to and from your heart. If these valves become damaged, which can occur for a variety of reasons, the blood can pool inside of the veins. When this happens, the veins swell and become noticeable from the outside.
Spider veins are small purple, red, or green surface veins that can be seen with the naked eye. We treat uncomplicated spider veins (very small varicose veins less than or equal to 1 mm in diameter) and uncomplicated reticular veins (small varicose veins 1 to 3 mm in diameter) in the legs.
Varicose veins are the more advanced, sometimes painful variation of spider veins, which cannot always be treated by sclerotherapy. When you come into the clinic to talk, we will determine whether you’re a candidate for this particular treatment.
Once we determine whether you’re eligible for sclerotherapy, we’ll get to work treating your condition. During sclerotherapy, we inject a solution called sclerosant into your vein. This seals off blood flow to the veins so they eventually collapse and disappear. The blood is redirected to other healthy veins in the area, which creates healthy blood flow in these areas. This process is not immediate and can take weeks to show results.
After the procedure is done, you will have to wear compression socks for about one week to reduce swelling and bruising. Swelling and bruising will not last for long, but it will be evident for a few days, because we have to puncture your veins to inject the sclerosant. This procedure is minimally invasive and proven to work. To learn more about sclerotherapy and other skin care services, contact us via phone or email.
